Day 1: Arusha - Lake Manyara National Park

This morning you'll head to Lake Manyara, an ancient soda lake in the Great Rift Valley, for some game viewing. The game in this beautiful national park is plentiful and the magnificent bird watching will make a devotee out of even the most reluctant. It is also one of the very few places in Africa to see the famous tree-climbing lions. Manyara's great colonies of pink flamingos will also delight.
If you have chosen the lodge package, you will be introduced to the Northern Tanzania culture on a visit to a fascinating Mto wa Mbu village for an opportunity to find out about their daily lives, visiting their farms, huts, artisan shops, and their local market. This Mto wa Mbu village is actually home to over eighteen thousand inhabitants from 120 different tribes.

Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park - Serengeti National Park

Today you set out for the endless open plains and stunning skies of Serengeti National Park, a famous migration corridor and UNESCO World Heritage site. En route, you stop at Olduvai Gorge, the "cradle of mankind", where the Leakey family uncovered the fossil of Homo Habilis who lived 1.75 million years ago. You also make a stop at a Maasai village and pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which was created to accommodate the needs of the Maasai people and which tests the idea that humans leading a pastoral lifestyle can coexist with wildlife. Finally, enter the park and head to your lodge / camp in the heart of the Serengeti for dinner.

Day 3: Full day in Serengeti National Park

Today will be the "Serengeti game viewing day". After breakfast, venture into the endless open plains of Serengeti National Park wilderness for a full day game drive with picnic lunches brought along with you. You will discover why the fabled Serengeti typifies the dream of "Old Africa". Large pride of lions laze in the tall grasses; families of elephants feed on acacia bark and trumpet to each other across the plains; while giraffes, gazelles, monkeys, eland, and the whole range of African wildlife present themselves in awe-inspiring numbers. If you are there during the spectacular wildebeest migration, you will be more than astonished!

Day 4: Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro Crater

Wake up at 06:00 for early morning game drives in Serengeti before breakfast. After breakfast, check out and take your picnic lunch box. Enjoy some last game viewing in Serengeti National Park en route to the world famous Ngorongoro Crater rim. Upon arrival, settle down at your stunning lodge / camp, situated on the rim of the crater. Be prepared for some remarkable views down onto the world's largest, unflooded, and unbroken caldera! Have dinner and overnight.
The caldera of Ngorongoro marks the ancient walls of a collapsed volcano, which was probably once the size of Mount Kilimanjaro. Nowadays, the completely enclosed circular crater is some twelve miles across, with steep walls of over 2,000 feet. You are at an altitude of approximately 7,500 feet above sea level, the highest point on your trip. After your time on the lower plains, the cooler air here is refreshing.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Floor - Return to Arusha

Today you descend 2,000 feet into the giant caldera of this extinct volcano, considered as 'Africa's Eden' and the ?Eighth Natural Wonder of the World. This magnificent natural amphitheater contains the largest concentration of animals in all of Africa. The rich pasture and permanent water on the crater floor supports a population of some 20,000 to 25,000 large mammals. Prides of lion, black rhino, and elephant share this land with the legendary Maasai tribesmen.
Because the grasses are short, games are easily spotted and can be approached quite closely. You'll have a fabulous time on the floor of the crater observing wildlife in this ageless World Heritage Site. Uniquely beautiful, you will never see anything like it again.
